In short backgammon, the pieces move towards each other, while in long backgammon, they move in the same direction. Also, in short backgammon, you can capture your opponent’s pieces, while in long backgammon, you can create “fences” to block the enemy. The goal in both versions is the same: to reach your base first and capture pieces to win. Short backgammon is a more combative and aggressive game, while long backgammon is more strategic.
